A family budget tracker that stays simple
A family budget tracker only works if the whole family actually uses it. That means it has to be quick to add an expense and easy to read at a glance. Happy Dad is designed around both: a dashboard of category cards you can take in at a glance, and an add-expense flow that takes a couple of taps.
Set up your categories once
New households start with a set of starter categories (Groceries, Eating Out, Bills, Gas, Shopping, Entertainment and Misc) with example budgets you can change. Add your own, set a monthly limit for each, and drag them into the order you want.
See the month at a glance
- Each category card shows spent against budget, with a bar that goes green, amber, then red.
- A monthly total bar shows the whole household against the whole budget.
- The monthly overview breaks the month down by day, category and person, and lets you look back at earlier months.
When you want more
Happy Dad+ is an optional subscription that adds a web dashboard with filters, trends and a forecast, plus spreadsheet exports. The free app covers tracking and sharing. Households that joined before Happy Dad+ launched have the dashboard included.
Good to know
- No bank linking: you enter expenses yourself.
- More than two people can share one household.
- iPhone only for now.
