A household budget app built for two

Most household budget tools are built for a family of five with a spreadsheet habit, or for one person with a bank-linked dashboard. Two people sharing a home sit between those: you need less ceremony than a family budget system, and more shared visibility than a personal app. Happy Dad is sized for that middle.

The household is the unit

Everything in the app hangs off one household. Categories, budgets and expenses belong to it, and both of you see the same thing. There is no "my budget" and "your budget" to reconcile at the end of the month.

A month in the life of a household of two

Starter categories

A new household begins with Groceries, Eating Out, Bills, Gas, Shopping, Entertainment and Misc, with example limits. Change them, delete them, add rent or a pet, and drag them into the order that matches how you think about money.

If your household grows

The household is not capped at two. A third person, a grown child or a roommate can join with their own invite code, which is handy later even if two is all you need today.

Constraints

Expenses are entered by hand, there is no bank linking, and the app is iPhone only for now.

Questions

Is there a limit to two people?

No. Two is the common case, but more members can join with their own invite codes.

Does the budget reset every month?

The dashboard shows the current month. Earlier months stay available in the monthly overview through the month picker.

What does it cost?

The core app is free. Happy Dad+ is an optional web dashboard at $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year, with the first month free.
