A budget app for dads who want the numbers without the homework
Plenty of dads are the person who ends up being "in charge of the budget" without ever having wanted a second job. The tools on offer tend to be either a spreadsheet you have to feed or an app that wants every account you own. Happy Dad was built for one real household's own budget, with a lower bar: log what you spend, see where you stand.
The routine that actually sticks
- Set a monthly limit for the handful of categories that matter: groceries, takeout, gas, shopping.
- Log a purchase in the parking lot. Two taps and a number.
- Glance at the dashboard when you want to know if the week is on track. Green is fine, amber is a heads-up, red means close to or over the limit.
Doing it as a team
Your partner joins with a 6-digit code and sees everything you add, live. That removes the awkward budget check-in: the numbers are already shared, so the conversation can be about decisions rather than about getting data.
When you want the bigger picture
The monthly overview shows spending by day, category and person. If you like charts, Happy Dad+ adds a web dashboard with filters, trends and a forecast for next month, at $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year, with the first month free. It is optional, and the free app is complete without it.
What it will not do
- No bank linking, so nothing is imported for you.
- No debt tracking or settle-up between you and your partner.
- iPhone only for now.
Questions
Is Happy Dad only for dads?
No. The name is a nod to the person who built it. Any couple or family can use it.
Do I need to be good with spreadsheets?
No. You pick categories, set limits and log spending. The charts and totals are built for you.
Can my partner see what I log?
Yes. Everything in the household is shared and updates live on both phones.
