A couples budget app with no bank linking
Many budgeting apps start by asking you to connect every bank and card account. Plenty of people are fine with that. Plenty are not, and a shared budget is a lot to ask a partner to sign up for if it begins with handing over credentials. Happy Dad takes the opposite approach: you type in what you spend, and that is all the app ever knows.
What you give up, and what you get
| Happy Dad | Bank-linked apps | |
|---|---|---|
| Bank or card login | Never asked | Usually required |
| Adding an expense | About two taps | Automatic import |
| Setup for a couple | Create household, share a 6-digit code | Link accounts, then invite |
| What the app holds | Your email and what you type in | Credentials and full transaction history |
| Noise | Only what you chose to log | Every transaction, categorized for you |
Why some couples prefer manual
- Logging a purchase makes you notice it, which is half of budgeting.
- There are no mis-categorized transactions or duplicate imports to clean up.
- You can budget cash, a shared card, or any account without linking anything.
Who it is not for
If you want every transaction pulled in automatically, or you need Android, a bank-linked app is the better fit. Happy Dad is deliberately manual and iPhone only for now.
Questions
Does Happy Dad ever ask for my bank login?
No. It has no bank or card connection at all. You enter expenses yourself.
What data does the app store?
Your email, an optional first name and photo, your household, and the categories and expenses you type in. You can delete all of it from the Household tab.
